I am a Mama of three sweet little boys. Luke is 7, Liam is 4 & Noah is 2. And over the years, I have found motherhood to be very wild, unpredictable & chaotic at times… so anywhere I can add in a little routine, I do! And my cleaning is no exception.
I have been following a cleaning routine… well several actually, for several years now. They have helped me to not only keep a cleaner home more often, but they also help avoid spending hours on end cleaning & as a bonus, I get a little more sanity! What Mom couldn’t use a little more sanity right!? I will be sharing my different cleaning routines over the next few weeks, but today, I am going to be talking about my Simple & Quick Morning Cleaning Routine – the things I do first thing when I wake up to get my home set up for the day & also to boost my productivity for the day. Now keep in mind that everyones routines won’t look the same, but you can use my routine as inspiration for what would work in your home! I will link the video of my Morning Cleaning Routine right here for y’all!
So the first thing I do to start off my Morning Cleaning Routine, is to open up the windows in our home. I feel like this really brings positive energy into our home & it also makes me feel more productive to feel the sun pouring in through the windows. Next I have my boys do one of their daily chores, which is emptying the clean dishwasher. My dishwasher is almost always clean in the mornings and ready to be emptied because I run my dishwasher at night, which I will talk more on when I share my Night Time Cleaning Routine next week. After my older boys are finished putting the clean dishes away, we will all sit down & have breakfast…. sometimes it’s a wonderful, nutritious, home cooked breakfast, and other times its cereal. It’s all just a balance of sometimes living the perfect life we want, and the rest of the time, living the realistic one that we can achieve! Anyway… after they finish breakfast, they will all clear their dishes and put them into the sink. I think having your kids be a part of your routines & be responsible for their own small things such as their dishes is so important – and it’s never too late to teach them.
Then once breakfast is over, the boys will get dressed with the clothes we had laid out the night before. While they’re getting dressed, I will clean up the kitchen. I start by loading our breakfast dishes into the emptied dishwasher, followed by hand washing any dishes that can’t go in the dishwasher. I love being able to load our dishes into our dishwasher throughout the day as we dirty them, that way I rarely feel overwhelmed by a stack of dishes all needing to be cleaned at once. I also clean my sink out with a little dish soap and a sponge… there is something so satisfying about a perfectly clean sink! Anyone feel the same?? After that, I will wipe down the counters with my natural cleaning products that I get from Grove Collaborative or I will use my ECloths that clean & disinfect with just water… either way, my counter tops & bar stools get wiped down after every meal. I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t think my kids can eat anything without making something sticky. Lol
Once my kitchen is nice & cleaned up, I will go ahead and turn on my diffusers. I LOVE diffusing essential oils in my home. They are natural, they are so customizable & now that I get my oils through Simply Earth, it is extremely affordable to get high quality oils! I got my diffusers off of Amazon, and I have my favorites saved there if you are looking for one. I love having a full size diffuser because I can turn it on in the morning, and it can run all day long, softly diffusing my favorite scents (usually peppermint or something citrus) and it will still be running by dinner time. I LOVE IT!! And once the diffuser is running, I will head into my bedroom.
I don’t do much in my bedroom, but I always make sure to make my bed every single morning. I find it makes the room so peaceful. Is there anything better than climbing into a made bed after a long day of working or chasing after the kids all day… I don’t think so. I also feel like a made bed boosts my productivity, and it definitely keeps me from wanting to lay back down during the day. First, because I don’t want to ruin my beautiful, perfectly made bed. And second, a made bed, never is as inviting as an recently slept in bed that you can still see the imprint of where you were just sleeping so comfortably before the day woke you up. So if you do not make your bed everyday… I Challenge You to make your bed every morning for one week… and see if it makes a difference for you. I bet you it will.
The last thing I do as part of my Morning Cleaning Routine, is head upstairs to fold the boys quilts and leave them at the ends of their beds. Both of my older boys will pull their smaller blanket up & fix their pillows, and Noah is working on doing this too. However, their warm quilts are a bit too bulky to easily fit onto their bunk beds & make them look presentable, so I have found it easiest to just quickly fold the quilts in the mornings & set it at the foot of their beds.
Now this really took much longer to type out than it does to actually do these things… in reality, this simple morning routine actually takes me around 10 minutes to get done, or 15 if I’m moving slow. Just taking a small amount of time in the mornings to tidy up your home & get it set up for the day is so beneficial! I would love to know if you have a morning cleaning routine, and if you do, is it similar to mine, or what do you do different? We all have something to share so I love chatting with you guys! After all, we are all in this together!!
