Today is the day that I share how I start & end my day with a clean home… with three young boys… and a husband… and a dog. I know it seems impossible, but this cleaning routine has been with me for years, & with it, I have managed to go to sleep in a (mostly) clean home on (most) nights!
Now I do have other cleaning routines that also help keep myself and my home in check, but I would have to say that my Night Time Cleaning Routine is my most important! I shared my Morning Cleaning Routine last week, and I will be sharing my Weekly Cleaning Routine within the next couple of weeks too, so be sure to check those out… but for today, let’s get into what I do every night! I will link my Night Time Cleaning Routine video right here for you. Now keep in mind that everyones routines will look a bit different, so please use my cleaning routine as inspiration for what you could incorporate into your own nighttime routine!
My night time cleaning routine starts after dinner… and depending on the night, it may start immediately after dinner, or it may not start for another hour or two past dinner. But no matter when it starts, it always starts in the kitchen. I will first get dinner put away and into the my glass leftover containers for another day. Then once all of the dinner dishes have been emptied out, I will finish loading up my dishwasher. I tend to load it throughout the day, & that way I don’t find myself in front of our sink for 30 minutes getting all of the days dishes done, and instead it gets broken up throughout the day. Once the dishwasher is full, I will turn it on and have it run over night. I have been using the Ecover Zero brand of dishwasher tabs for about a month now and I have to recommend them! I’ve been searching for so long for a natural dishwasher detergent that actually cleans your dishes, and also is good at dealing with hard water… and this one is amazing at both! It works just as well as the less natural ones I had been using for years. I got them from Grove Collaborative, which is where I get most all of my natural cleaning supplies, and if you are in search of a more natural option, I highly suggest the Ecover ones! So once in a while I won’t do my nighttime routine (I always regret it), but the one thing I will never skip, is running my dishwasher before bed. I have found this to be so important to start the day with clean dishes & a clean sink. If you haven’t tried running your dishwasher at night, and unloading it in the morning, I challenge you to try it… I bet it will be an amazing change that you will love!
Once the dishwasher is full & running, I will finish washing my pots, pans, knives & any other large dishes that don’t fit into our dishwasher. And once those are cleaned, dried & put away, I will clean my sink with dish soap & a sponge. If you watch my YouTube Channel, you know that I do this anytime I have dishes sitting in my sink. It makes such a difference to have a clean sink in my opinion, and again, if you haven’t tried making washing out your sink a part of your daily routine, I urge you to try it! And a little hack I found a long time ago, is to add some essential oils down your sink & it will make it smell amazing!! I love & recommend the Simply Earth brand, because they have high quality oils for usually less than half the cost. Definitely try that little hack if you haven’t already. You’ll thank me later!
Next on the list is wiping down the counters & our dining room table. Currently I will either use the Mrs Meyers Apple Cider spray & a microfiber cloth (only the Grove Collaborative ones though… most microfiber cloths stick to my fingers), or I will use an all purpose Cloth. Then I will wipe down my stove & fridge using a combination of the all purpose Ecloth and the glass & polishing Ecloth. I find that it’s so much easier to wipe down my stove every day or two than to let it build up and seriously scrub it! And I wipe down my stainless steal fridge every day… well, because Kids, especially toddlers. I’ve found the Ecloths to work amazing at leaving no streaks at all on our stainless steel appliances & I love that they disinfect & clean with just water! They are magical little cloths!
While I am doing all of that in the kitchen, is usually when my husband & the boys will start tidying up the living room and the boys will put all of their toys away in the playroom upstairs. This is one of their chores that they do daily usually. And once that is done, either my husband or I will vacuum the main living area (the foyer, family room & kitchen/dining). We definitely have to vacuum daily with three young boys & a dog… sometimes even twice a day. Now most nights that would be all, but about twice a week, we will also mop the floors. I have been using my Shark Steam Mop for about 7-8 years & although I hate mopping, I love that mop! It takes the major inconveniences out of mopping (like the big bucket of hot soapy water that you have to tote around & always sloshes around making an even bigger mess on the floor)… yes it’s still mopping & it will probably always be a chore I hate doing… but I will hate doing it less because of my Shark mop! lol
So that is all that I do every night, it really doesn’t take very long, but it keeps our house from getting crazily out of order, it gets everyone somewhat involved & it helps us go to bed in a clean home & wake up in one too! Do you have a NightTime Cleaning Routine that you do every evening? Let me know! And let me know if yours is similar to mine or what you do differently! I would love to hear! I always feel like we can learn so much from sharing with each other. So lets share our knowledge & inspire one another, after all, we are all in this together!
