So here we are, just another day spent cleaning our homes, and organizing our things, or maybe just being too busy to get any of it done, but we’re still having the constant reminder of it weighing on our minds. I like to consider myself a pretty clean person, with a pretty organized home… but I still feel like I devote way too much of my time & thoughts on maintaining it. And over the years, when my possessions become a little overwhelming in my home, I have felt that my organizing systems must be the problem; but I have come to the realization that it’s not the systems, it’s the things. I own way too many things, and they are stealing my time. This is the year that all of that will stop.
This year I am taking control of my home, my life, and my time. I am going to declutter everything! Decluttering sounds like such a simple thing, and it can be… but it can also be an overwhelming, stressful, emotional and time-consuming process. I’m not new to this practice, and I have decluttered lots over the years, and I have learned tons of great tips in doing so. So as I am starting this process again, I am taking it a little further; I am doing a massive, whole house decluttering series on my channel, and I am inviting you to come along this journey with me! I will share my tips & tricks, along with personal motivation on my YouTube channel, to tackle your own home!
When I declutter, I like to follow a combination of the KonMari Method (by Marie Kondo), as well as a few personal methods that I have practiced over the years. And one thing to remember when you declutter your own space is, it’s wonderful to have guidance when you’re just starting out, but you need to adapt other’s methods along with your own, and create a method that truly works for you! So if something that I do isn’t working for you, don’t be afraid to change it up!
In this video, I share lots of amazing decluttering tips & ways to view the decluttering process in an easier way, but one of the best I think I shared, was to not think about the money that you spent when you first purchased the item… but in stead ask yourself these questions. Is it worth the time that it’s going to take me to clean it? Is it worth the effort it’s going to take me to organize it? Is it worth the space it’s going to take up in my home? Those are the true cost of owning your belongings. The money has been spent, but these are the ways that these items continue to cost us, which in my mind are a much harsher cost than just money. I hope y’all enjoy this video & coming along this journey with me! I can’t wait to chat with y’all in the comments & connect with y’all on Instagram as we better our lives by removing the things that aren’t benefitting us more than they are costing us! Have a sweet day friends!! XO ♡Amanda
